So, Friday, Sandy is walking down the street talking to Peter--in English, and this Lithuanian starts telling her he's in the music department at Klaipeda University and he plays the bells (chimes) in the post office belfry every Saturday and Sunday at noon. Several of us wandered over to hear him play a selection of Bach, Vivaldi, and more (thankfully, Ellen was there to tell us what we were hearing.)
As you can see, Peter enjoyed it.
About an hour later, we bumped into the guy again, and he told us of jazz show at the square at 7 PM, so we headed there. Along the way, we took a break at a riverside fountain.
Then we headed across the Dane (Dah-nay) River, on one of the wedding bridges. The story goes that a groom must carry his bride across seven bridges, and they typically start with this one. Our guide said something about going on to Palanga (about 20 miles up the road). I guess there are not seven worthy bridges in Klaipeda.
She also told us that couples "lock" themselves together to the bridge, as a symbol that their marriage cannot be broken.
The music never started before we had to leave to get Peter home, so we just wandered around looking at hanging (so to speak) baskets, instead.
