We've Arrived

...in Klaipeda, that is.

Our little apartment is right in the heart of old town. It's small, very comfortable, and startingly modern. It seems like someone had just gotten back from IKEA just before we got there. Some items still have prcice tags on them.

A very pleasant fellow--an alum of the college--drove us in from the aiport. As we talked about Lithuania, he mentioned that a lot of Lithuanians have moved to Ireland--Northern and the Republic, I believe. I don't know why that came up, or why I bothered to look up this material, but here it is. Maybe it's that I still find Ireland's economic turnaround startling. (It has grown so fast as to be called the Celtic Tiger, a play on the name of the fast-growing Asian Tigers.)

Well, enough about Ireland. But perhaps more to come on movement of people, social changes that result therefrom, etc.
